17-Year-Old Arrested After Alleged Threat Leads District to Cancel Classes in St. Francis

St. Francis police say a 17-year-old student has been arrested after an alleged verbal threat led to the cancellation of classes Friday.

The St. Francis school district elected to cancel all classes Friday after police said a threat of violence against Crossroads School and Vocational Center was reported to them Thursday.

A release from the City of St. Francis described the alleged threat as verbal in nature, and said law enforcement and district officials took it seriously.

The student has been booked into the Lino Lakes Correctional Facility. And the release said there are no other known threats to any St. Francis area school.

The school district said the decision was made to cancel classes Friday, as well as all early childhood programs, community education classes, and after-school and evening activities. Kids Connection and Just 4 Kids are closed as well, according to an announcement on the district website.

"To ensure the safety of all our students and staff, the decision has been made to cancel school for today, Friday, February 23," the announcement read. "All buildings will be closed and staff are directed to stay home."
