Jake, the Rochester wild turkey looking for a partner during the morning commute was shot and killed by police Tuesday after he reportedly chased a child on a bicycle.

Hubbard-owned KAAL reports Rochester Police Interim Chief John Sherwin said his office has gotten about two to three calls about Jake over the last month saying he's creating traffic problems, nearly causing accidents, and is aggressive. He was often spotted in the area of Mayowood Rd and 16 St. SW.

On Tuesday, May 22, police got a call that Jake was chasing a child on a bicycle. The Rochester Police Department, the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources and Animal Control all responded. Authorities wanted to capture Jake and try to relocate him.

However, Interim Chief Sherwin said after hours of trying to catch him using nets, Jake continued to be aggressive, and the decision was made to put him down because of the public safety concern. An officer shot and killed Jake.
