Well, Minnesotans, we're still pretty gosh darn happy, but we are no longer the happiest state in the nation, according to a new WalletHub analysis.

Minnesota topped the list in 2017, but this year, we're the third happiest state in the U.S.

We were bumped by Hawaii as No. 1 and Utah at No. 2. (Um, WalletHub, hasn't Hawaii been dealing with a pretty big and leaky volcano this year, some earthquakes and hurricane?)

Our neighbors, North Dakota, are right behind us in the rankings. Our other border friends did pretty well too. Iowa is No. 8, South Dakota is No. 9 and Wisconsin is No. 11.

WalletHub develops the rankings analyzing the following factors (natural disasters didn't make the list):

  • Adult Depression
  • Adequate Sleep Rate
  • Sports Participation
  • Suicide Rate
  • Work Hours
  • Long-Term Unemployment Rates
  • Income Growth
  • Volunteer Rate
  • Divorce Rate
  • Safest

Minnesota is notably the second best state for emotional and physical well-being, the third safest state and has the fourth lowest divorce rate in the nation.
