Update: Chippewa County, Wisconsin, will charge the 10-year-old as an adult in the death of a 6-month-old.

In court, prosecutors said the girl dropped the baby, panicked, and then inflicted fatal head trauma.

ABC-affiliate WQOW in Eau Claire reports a 10-year-old made an appearance in adult court Monday morning in Chippewa County after police allege the juvenile confessed to harming a 6-month-old who later died.

WQOW reports Chippewa County Sheriff Jim Kowalczyk said the department received a 911 call from the town of Wheaton saying a 6-month-old was bleeding from the head and unresponsive. The child was taken to St. Joseph's Hospital, then later flown to St. Paul where he died Thursday.

The residence in Wheaton where the incident reportedly occurred is a licensed daycare, the station reported.

Kowalczyk said the child, who is being held on $50,000 bond, could be moved to juvenile court, but that has not been decided.
