With just three weeks to go until the biggest college basketball event of the year, officials with U.S. Bank Stadium say they will be game ready by April 1.
Minneapolis will host the NCAA Final Four basketball tournament this year, with events starting on April 5.
But before the teams and fans get to town, the stadium will completely transform to accommodate possible record-setting crowds.
The stadium's general manager gave an update on the progress at Friday's Minnesota Sports Facilities Authority board meeting.
Extra seating is being added on the floor that will give the stadium capacity to hold 72,000 people.
"We normally seat about 66,000," said MFSA board chairman Michael Vekich.
Vekich said the NCAA also sent a special center-court scoreboard that will be hung up.
Crews are more than halfway finished hanging large drapes that will help block out extra light on the windows and ceiling of the stadium. The board said they will reuse some of the drapes in the future during concerts to help acoustics.
"We've had expert planning and the pieces are in place for the preparation that is happening and I can assure everyone it will come off wonderfully," Vekich said.
U.S. Bank Stadium is still looking to hire 50-75 additional workers to help take tickets and work concession stands during the games. Applicants are welcome at two upcoming hiring fairs: one on Saturday, March 16 at 10 a.m.; the other on Tuesday, March 19 at 4 p.m.
