A police pursuit that started following a report of a theft in St. Anthony ended after the suspect vehicle crashed, according to a release from the St. Anthony Police Department.

The release said officers were called around 3:45 p.m. on the report of a theft that occurred at a business on the 3800 block of Silver Lake Road. Witnesses were able to give police a detailed description of the suspect vehicle.

A St. Anthony police officer was able to locate the suspect vehicle a few blocks from where the theft occurred.

The release said the officer turned on his lights and attempted to stop the suspect vehicle. According to police, the suspect vehicle pulled over to the side of the road and stopped. When the officer pulled up behind the vehicle, the suspect vehicle accelerated at a high rate of speed.

More from KSTP:

After pursuing the suspect vehicle for two blocks, the officer notified dispatch of his intent to terminate the pursuit of the vehicle.

The officer still had a view of the suspect vehicle when it sideswiped another vehicle on McKinley Street in Minneapolis. Police said the vehicle that was sideswiped then crashed into a parked, occupied vehicle.

Officers took the three occupants of the suspect car into custody. The occupants of the other cars involved were evaluated at the scene and released.

According to the release, a female passenger was determined to have committed the theft from the business. Police said she was issued a citation and released. The other female suspect in the vehicle was also released.

The male driver of the vehicle was arrested and is being held on suspicion of fleeing police in a motor vehicle and driving while intoxicated, according to the release.
