Police: Suspect, Victims in St. Paul Suspicious Death, Sexual Assault Knew Each Other

Police say a suspect knew the woman who died and the teenager who was sexually assaulted in an incident in St. Paul Monday.

Police were investigating a suspicious death, which they've since ruled a homicide, Monday morning on the 1500 block of East Jessamine Lane.

Authorities said, upon arrival, they found a woman dead inside a residence in the area as well as a teenage girl who had been who had been sexually assaulted and held against her will at the home.

"This is just a heartbreaking case, not only for the family, but also for our investigators and officers who responded," Steve Linders, with the St. Paul Police Department, said. "These cases are always difficult, but with the added complexity with the (criminal sexual conduct), it becomes even more difficult."

Authorities said they arrested 33-year-old Ivan Walker, from Illinois, in connection with the incident. Linders said charges in connection with the sexual assault are pending.

Investigators said the teenaged victim is not the daughter of the woman who died.

Authorities are expected to release the name of the woman who died Tuesday. The Ramsey County medical examiner is expected to release the exact cause of death.
