Police say an adult male was transported to North Memorial Health Hospital with non-life threatening injuries after he was shot Thursday morning in North Minneapolis.

A Minneapolis Police Department spokesperson said officers received a 911 call about a man who had been shot just after 9:30 a.m. A squad car responded and located the man in the area of Penn Avenue North and Lowry Avenue near the Lucy Craft Laney Community School.

A Facebook post from the school said it is believed the man may have walked past the school building on the other side of Penn Avenue, but staff and students did not notice anything.

Police said initial investigation indicates the shooting might have been related to an earlier damage-to-property incident in the area and could have been an act of self-defense.

The matter remains under investigation.
