Authorities in St. Paul say a "badly decomposed" body was found in a drainage ditch Monday.

Police spokesperson Steve Linders said the body was found by an Xcel Energy maintenance worked near Seventh Street and Randolph Avenue.

Investigators do not know if the deceased is male or female, or the age or cause of death, Linders said.

"It's under investigation," he said, "but we probably won't know anything for some time."
