Police are investigating a suspicious death in St. Paul.
St. Paul police spokesperson Steve Linders said in a conference a call was received reporting an assault around 4:50 p.m. Monday in the area of the 1700 block of Benson Avenue, in the West 7th neighborhood.
Upon the officers' arrival, they found a man inside of the residence who was unresponsive. St. Paul fire medics arrived on scene to assist, according to Linders. A 33-year-old man was declared dead at the scene. He has been identified as Matthew Richard Schramm.
Homicide investigators arrived on scene to interview any witnesses and were able to identify the 911 caller and bring them into questioning. They also interviewed at least one family member, according to Linders.
On Tuesday, the Ramsey County medical examiner conducted an autopsy on the victim. The results will come out at a later time.
Based on the preliminary investigation, authorities will proceed looking into this as a homicide. If confirmed, it would be the city's seventh homicide this year.
