Police investigating homicide in Minneapolis’ Phillips neighborhood

Authorities say they are investigating a homicide that occurred Thursday night in the Phillips neighborhood of Minneapolis.

According to police, officers were called just before 8:40 p.m. to the area of Oakland Avenue and East 22nd Street on the report of a shooting.

When officers arrived, they located a man in his 20s who suffered gunshot wounds.

Paramedics arrived and pronounced the man dead at the scene.

It is believed the suspect and the victim were familiar with each other. The suspect fled the scene before police arrived.

According to a police spokesperson, this is the 22nd homicide in the city in 2021. In comparison, the city reached its 22nd homicide last year on June 15.
