A Stillwater man was taken to a nearby hospital after a police chase that led to a crash in Maplewood Tuesday morning.

Authorities said the crash happened just before 3 a.m. on the ramp from eastbound Interstate 94 to Century Avenue North, near Merit Chevrolet.

According to the Minnesota State Patrol, a trooper saw a vehicle traveling more than 100 mph on eastbound I-94 just after 2:40 a.m. The trooper attempted to stop the vehicle but the driver—identified as 20-year-old Howard Johnson, of Stillwater—refused to stop.

A pursuit began, according to the state patrol, with Johnson exceeding 120 mph during the chase.
