Police: Caregiver in Braham taken into custody after 1-year-old suffers 'grave injuries'

The caregiver of a 1-year-old has been taken into custody in Braham after the child had to be taken to the hospital for "grave injuries," according to police. 

A news release from the Braham Police Department said authorities were called just before 1 p.m. to the 200 block of Beechwood Avenue South on the report of an infant in medical distress.

When officers arrived, they provided medical aid to the child. The child was later transported to Children's Hospital with what police described as "grave injuries." 

The news release said officers interviewed the child's caregiver and found the explanation of the incident was not consistent with the severity of the child's injuries.

Police said the caregiver was taken into custody.
