A man remains in the hospital in police custody after authorities say he used a machete to cut a woman and himself.

According to St. Cloud Police, officers were called to a reported burglary in the 1800 block of 15th Avenue Southeast at about 4:34 p.m. Monday.

Police said an investigation revealed that the man, identified as 20-year-old Trevor Lee Cluever, of Brainerd, had come to the apartment building and met with the woman, an acquaintance of his, in the building's lobby. During the meeting, police say he pulled out a machete and struck the woman in the shoulder and wrist.

The woman ran to her apartment and locked herself inside, but police said Cluever followed her and forced his way into the apartment where he then started cutting himself before leaving and going to the parking lot, where arriving officers found him.

The woman was transported to a local hospital for her injuries.

Cluever was arrested and transported by ambulance to the hospital for treatment of his injuries, which police said were serious. As of Tuesday afternoon, police said Cluever remains in the hospital in police custody. Upon his release, he'll be transported to jail on potential charges of first-degree burglary, felony assault and domestic assault.
