St. Paul police say a 12-year-old boy was shot in the knee Saturday while playing with other children in his home on the 500 block of Earl Street.

A police spokesperson said officers located damage consistent with a bullet coming through two or more walls from outside the home before it struck the boy. Officers arriving on the scene applied a tourniquet to the boy's leg.

Witnesses described an altercation between two cars of people in the parking lot of a nearby market. Shots were reportedly fired and the individuals involved fled in their vehicles.

The incident remains under investigation.
