Princeton schools were placed on a temporary soft lockdown Tuesday afternoon due to police activity in the area.

The Princeton Public Schools website said at 2:15 p.m., school officials were notified by Mille Lacs County of an incident, and law enforcement told the schools to go into a soft lockdown.

The school district said the lockdown delayed dismissal by about 10 minutes, but law enforcement said buses could run their regular routes while avoiding the area near the Mille Lacs County fairgrounds. Additionally, the district said students on buses 11, 18 and 33 may experience longer delays until law enforcement gives an "all clear".

It's unclear what the police activity is related to, but 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS has put in calls to law enforcement about it and a KSTP crew is headed to the scene.
