A 5-year-old child was struck by a driver in St. Paul Thursday night, according to police.
Police confirmed a driver heading east on West Cook Avenue struck a child near Matilda Street around 7:15 p.m.
The child suffered head and body injuries and was taken to Regions Hospital. The child was in critical, but stable condition Friday, according to police.
The child's family was nearby at the time. The driver stayed on scene and was cooperative, police said. Drugs or alcohol do not appear to be a factor.
