Playground Fire Under Investigation in South Minneapolis

There are burn marks and yellow tape surrounding the playground equipment at Lake Harriet Lower School. A fire broke out on the equipment on Sunday, just before noon.

"At first I thought the school was on fire," said witness Duncan Scott.

"Then I realized it was the playground burning really bright. It was scary because I thought the flames were going to spread," he said.

Minneapolis Fire investigators say four juveniles have been identified as culprits in this case, and they are cooperating. It's still too early into the investigation to determine if they will face charges.

School starts at the elementary school in one week. A spokesperson for Minneapolis Public Schools says they will have to replace the damaged equipment, which could take 6-8 weeks.
