The Pine County Sheriff's Office has confirmed the name of a deputy who was with a DNR Conservation Officer when he died Friday night on Cross Lake near Pine City.
Sheriff Jeff Nelson said deputy Scott Grice, who was also thrown from the boat while he and conservation officer Eugene Wynn were investigating a report of a possible body in the water, is now out of the hospital and doing OK physically.
A release from the DNR said Wynn and the deputy had just launched Wynn's boat and were motoring away from shore when they were thrown into the water. Rescuers were able to reach the deputy, but Wynn slipped beneath the water before rescuers could get to him.
His body was recovered early Saturday morning.
Nelson said Monday that the boat had been recovered, but would not comment on whether Wynn and the deputy were wearing life jackets at the time.
The matter remains under investigation.
