Hundreds of Allina Health volunteers helped distribute bikes to kids who may not otherwise be able to afford one on Saturday.

It was part of the "Free Bikes 4 Kidz" event.

The project started in October 2018 when donated bikes were collected at Allina Health hospitals and clinic.

The hospital says more than 5,000 bikes were collected, and since then, they've been cleaned and tuned up in preparation for the giveaway.

The bikes were given to children identified as someone who could benefit from one by social workers within schools Allina partners with or that partner with nonprofit organizations.
