The Polk County Sheriff's Office reports one person is dead after a vehicle went through the ice in the narrows between Balsam Lake and East Balsam Thursday.

A release said a report was received around 4:53 p.m. Thursday. First responders were immediately dispatched to the scene.

At around 5:25 p.m., the release states a single male occupant was recovered from the silver Toyota Rav 4 with Minnesota license plates. The vehicle was almost fully submerged.

CPR was administered and the male was transported to the St. Croix Regional Medical Center. But the release said hospital staff reported he later died.

His name is being withheld pending notification of family members.
