Authorities are confirming an officer-involved shooting Wednesday in Maple Grove.

A police presence was visible Wednesday afternoon outside the home on the 9600 block of Trenton Lane North.

According to a press release from the department, police responded to a 911 hang-up call at 2:02 p.m.

Upon arriving at the scene, an individual reportedly had a knife.

"During a confrontation with the individual, one officer discharged their firearm shooting the individual," the release said.

That individual is in critical condition, according to the department. His son has identified him as Dewayne Burlingham, and says his father has had his share of struggles - including a history of calling police on himself.

"There's just a lot of emotions right now," Cody Burlingham said. "I don't know to feel sorry, sad, or what. I want more answers. No one's telling us anything. The hospital won't tell us nothing."

The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is investigating, which is standard procedure in officer-involved shootings.

Police added there is no threat to the public.
