A North St. Paul man died after a motorcycle crash involving a deer in Polk County, Wisconsin.

The Polk County Sheriff's Office said deputies were notified of a crash involving a motorcycle and deer on State Highway 87, just south of 210th Avenue, at about 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday.

According to the sheriff's office, deputies learned that Anthony Lewsader, 50, was driving a 2007 Harley Davidson motorcycle north on Highway 84. At that time, a friend he was riding with said he saw a deer walking out of the east ditch, but didn't believe Lewsader saw the deer until it was on the road.

Lewsader braked, but was unable to avoid the deer. The sheriff's office said he was thrown from the motorcycle, and he and the deer were knocked to the pavement, injuring Lewsader's head.

He was airlifted to Regions Hospital in St. Paul, but later died from his injuries, the sheriff's office said. He wasn't wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.
