North High School in Minneapolis secured after shots fired nearby

Minneapolis Public School officials said a bullet from gunshots fired by the sidwalk of a nearby intersection went into North High School Wednesday afternoon.

In a statement on social media, the district said no one was injured, the building is secure and students and staff are safe. The incident occurred around 12:30 p.m. by the sidewalk west of the intersection of 15th and Irving Avenues.

The Minneapolis Police Department said officers searched the area but were unable to locate a suspect. 

The district said the Minneapolis Police Department and district safety and security staff are investigating the incident.

Parents can pick their child up prior to regular dismissal, but will need to show proof they are the child's emergency contanct.

The district said it will share more information when it becomes available.
