A new murder charge was filed Thursday against a man after an infant's death a day earlier.

Minneapolis Police said a second-degree murder charge was added against Zachary Victor Robinson Jr. by the Hennepin County Attorney's Office on Thursday.

Robinson had already been charged with second-degree murder, second-degree assault and felon in possession of a gun in connection to 27-year-old Leneesha Columbus' death on July 5.

Officers responded to the area of 37th Street and Elliot Avenue at about 9:15 p.m. on July 5 for a reported shooting. There, officers found Columbus, who was pregnant, suffering from a gunshot wound.

She was taken to a hospital and her child was delivered and placed in the NICU. However, Columbus later died. The baby died early Wednesday around 12:58 a.m., having been in the hospital since the emergency delivery.
