Two days ago, there were 108 animals available for adoption at Animal Humane Society shelters in the Twin Cities. Now there are just two left.

The Humane Society announced earlier this week it was moving about 100 animals to its Golden Valley shelter before closing its locations to the public on Sunday to prevent the spread of COVID-19. It plans to remain closed through May 2.

We called for help and you answered – 90 animals were adopted yesterday! Animal Humane Society is temporarily closing as a result of the current pandemic, beginning Sunday evening through May 2. As we begin moving the remaining animals into foster care, the number of dogs, cats, and critters available for adoption in our shelters is changing quickly. If you are interested in adopting, please check our website before coming in. Available animals are listed at the "adoptable animals" link in our profile. Thank you!

In an update posted to Instagram on Saturday, the Humane Society said it would close its Golden Valley shelter on Sunday as soon as all remaining animals are adopted.

While shelters will be closed to the public, they will still perform essential functions, such as humane investigations, intake of strays and surrenders, and care and medical treatment for animals.
