A controversy surrounding a Native American emblem on the floor of Park High School is dividing some Cottage Grove residents.

The Indian head mosaic was installed several decades ago, but now some students and parents want it removed.

The school district says no decision has been made, but that it's considering removing the emblem. Officials hope to make a decision on the artwork over the next few months.

Some petitions have sprung up online in favor of keeping the artwork, which supporters say honors Native Americans and the school's history.

"I always thought it was beautiful," said Kim Wamstead, who works at a local barber shop. "I hope it's not going to go, but it probably will."

Park High School changed its mascot from the Indians to the Park Wolfpack more than twenty years ago.
