Police have arrested a man after they say he notified authorities he killed his wife Friday night in Blaine.

According to the Anoka County Sheriff's Office, the Blaine Police Department responded to the 2700 block of 95th Avenue Northeast at about 9:44 p.m.

KSTP was told they found 46-year-old Mary Jo Jansen dead inside the family's home.

The sheriff’s office said 46-year-old Matthew Lynn Jansen was taken into custody "without incident." He is being held at the Anoka County Jail on a second-degree murder charge. He has not been formally charged at this point.

The Anoka County Sheriff's Office said they are reviewing the case.

“It just seems unbearable and unthinkable,” said Tim Magnuson, a neighbor. “We love this family and it just breaks our heart.”

The families have lived next door to each other for nearly a decade. Magnuson said they barbecued together and hung out with the Jansen’s at their pool.

“They’d help us out with different projects around the house, they picked up mail while we were gone in the summertime,” he said. “We couldn't have asked for better neighbors."

Magnuson said he talked to Mary Jo just the other day. He described her as friendly and caring.

“She was just an incredible lady we just really, really appreciated her and loved her,” he said. “This is the farthest thing from our minds that something like this would happen.”

The Jansen’s have two children, according to Magnuson.

“We really honestly couldn't feel more love in our hearts for the entire family. The kids-- we just we love the kids,” he said. “Our hearts break for them and we're here for them if they need us in any way.”
