The Minnesota State Fire Marshal said on Friday that 2019 has seen more fire-related deaths than last year.

As of Dec. 13, 41 people have died in fires in the state. In comparison, 2018's numbers show 37 people died from fire-related incidents. At this time last year, there were 35 reported fire deaths.

The Minnesota Department of Public Safety said 2018's numbers decreased by 47% in comparison to 2017. There were 68 fire-related deaths in 2017.

Last year's numbers were the second-lowest total on record and the lowest total since 2009, when 35 people were killed in fires.
