A Minneapolis teaching assistant is on life support after being assaulted at the Harrison Education Center Tuesday, according to the man's family.
The man's uncle identified him as Mohammed Dukuly.
His uncle, also named Mohammed Dukuly, is an Imam at a Brooklyn Center Islamic Community Center. He said his nephew was thrown against a wall and was seriously injured.
Dukuly is at Hennepin County Medical and is in critical condition, according to hospital staff.
His uncle said doctors have not ruled out the possibility his nephew can recover, but the "entire family is very concerned."
"We know this is in God's hands and we are hoping for the recovery," Dukuly said. "And doctors have not told us there is no chance of recovery, so we are praying."
John Elder, a spokesman with the Minneapolis Police Department, said an 18-year-old male student was taken into custody in connection with the incident.
A source told 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS the same student detained in Tuesday's assault of Dukuly was also involved in an altercation with another staff member at Harrison last on May 15.
Minneapolis Public Schools district spokesperson Dirk Tedmon said because of privacy laws, the district is unable to share details about the incident.
