Earlier, authorities had asked for the public's assistance in locating the teen the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension identified as Andrew Cunat.

He was last seen leaving Belle Plaine High School around 9 p.m. Tuesday. Authorities said it was unlike Cunat to not return home or show up at school.

Police had been using drones, volunteers, and K9's to search for the missing boy.

Editor's note: This story has been edited to correct the day of the week the teen was safely located.
