Minnesota State Fair unveils new attractions

There will be new events and new places to visit at the Minnesota State Fair this season.

Wednesday, fair officials highlighted the new North End Event Center which will be used to house various exhibits, including "Angry Birds Universe: The Exhibition" and "Minnesota Corn Fairstalk" this year.

For those who consider the animals to be the main fair attraction, fair officials said goats will now have their own education station inside the south entrance of the Sheep and Poultry Barn. Additionally, the Cattle Barn has been repaired after damage in March and will be fully operational this season.

Those seeking an adrenaline rush can visit three new rides debuting at the fair this year: The Sea Ray, the Zero Gravity and the Merry-Go-Round.

For those interested in a calming experience at the fair, officials said a Minnesota Healing Garden will include waterfalls among a variety of plants and signs explaining each plant's medicinal uses.

A handful of items will be on display at the Eco Experience exhibit in the Progress Center this year, including an 18,000-pound block of ice that officials hope will raise awareness of climate change's effects on the state's ice season, a battery-powered lawn mower and snow blower, and a solar garden setup.

In terms of transportation, officials said there will be two new Park and Ride lots—one at 2955 Centre Pointe Drive in Roseville and one at Grace Lutheran Church on Old Hudson Road in St. Paul.
