Updated: September 12, 2019 10:13 PM

Minnesota State Fair Police audio captured a chaotic and violent final weekend with nine fights, a gun recovered, an officer assaulted and a shooting just outside the Fair entrance on Labor Day night.

State Fair officials confirmed there were nine fights Saturday, Aug. 31, between 7:30 p.m. and 11 p.m. involving juveniles at several locations, with one officer assaulted and five arrests made.

State Fair Police scanner audio showed the scope of those fights sometimes involved between 20 and 50 juveniles who were moving to different spots within the fairgrounds.

Just before the fair closed on Saturday night, you can hear officers, on the scanner, organizing a push down Dan Patch Way involving multiple squad cars and 12 police officers.

On Monday night, there was another fight between 7 p.m. and 8 p.m. where police reported that a fight broke out and at least one person had used pepper spray on people.

Police say 2 guns were used in shooting outside of the State Fair

Then, around the same time, there were scanner reports of police tracking two individuals, one who was running by the Grandstand with a gun in his waistband.

Moments later, an officer called to dispatch over the radio that he "recovered the gun" and there was "one person in custody" related to the gun being recovered.

At closing time on Labor Day, a woman was struck by a car on Snelling Avenue, just outside the Fair entrance, and gunshots were fired as St. Paul Police converged on the scene.

KSTP asked the State Fair for an interview to comment on the assaults and the police scanner audio, but a Fair spokesperson refused our request to interview State Fair Police Chief Paul Paulos.

One source told 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS Chief Paulos thanked Fair Police for their hard work the last Saturday night of the Fair.

According to the source, Paulos told multiple officers "thanks, for the hard work because we almost lost control Saturday night."

A message to Paulos asking for comment has gone unreturned.
