Day 9 of the Minnesota State Fair: Solar farming, butter carving among events

Friday is the ninth day of the Minnesota State Fair.

Starting at 9 a.m., there will be a presentation on solar farming in Minnesota at the Agriculture Horticulture Building.


Also at 9 a.m., kids can participate in Math On-A-Stick at Family Fair Baldwin Park. Attendees can partake in a scavenger hunt among other activities.

Those interested in learning more about various dog breeds can visit the Pet Pavilions at 9 a.m.

At 10:30 a.m., there is a cottage cheese-eating contest, as well as a yogurt-eating contest. Then, at 4 p.m., a Butter Carve-O-Rama will allow visitors to try their hand at butter carving. Those events are taking place at the Moo Booth.

Early Bird Specials are also offered until 1 p.m. on Mighty Midway and Kidway rides and games Friday.

Meanwhile, attendance at the state fair has surpassed one million visitors. More than 142,000 people passed through the gates Wednesday. Fair officials said they are hoping to surpass two million visitors again this year.
