Minnesota Moment: Woodbury 5th-Grader Earns Perfect Score in Vocabulary Challenge

June 12, 2018 03:19 PM

A fifth-grader at Valley Crossing Elementary School in Woodbury recently earned a perfect score in the WordMasters Challenge.

Out of 150,000 kids, Nathan Kinney was one of just 65 fifth-graders to get a perfect score in the national online vocabulary challenge.

"I think it's important for us to do this as kids because it gives us word skills like to be able to put together the words," Kinney said. "Like it's one thing knowing the words and definitions, but it's also another thing to know how to use it in context with other words."

Kinney credited his success to his love of words and reading, as well as his competitiveness.
