On the final day of Black History Month, the first two black cheerleaders in Minneapolis Public Schools were recognized at a local ceremony.
Gwendolyn Fraction and Harriet Bowman-Soloman were the first black cheerleaders at MPS.
Fraction cheered at North High School in 1949, and Bowman-Soloman cheered at Central High School in 1950.
The two were recognized Thursday night at a Black History Month celebration at Franklin Middle School.
