Investigation into fatal officer-involved shooting in Stillwater underway

The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension was at the scene of a fatal officer-involved shooting in Stillwater Wednesday morning.

According to the Washington County Sheriff's Office, officers from the Bayport, Oak Park Heights and Stillwater police departments responded to a call along the 1200 block of South Fourth Street.


Upon arrival, officers found a male armed with a knife. During the encounter, one officer discharged a firearm and another officer used a Taser.

The male was transported to Lakeview Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

The sheriff's office reports both officers will be placed on standard administrative leave, as per department policy.

The BCA is expected to conduct an independent investigation.
