A police spokesperson said the woman was assaulted and shot, suffering an injury that is not considered life-threatening. She was reportedly able to jump from the vehicle in the area of Fremont and Broadway avenues and ran to a nearby residence to call 911.

She was transported by ambulance to the Hennepin County Medical Center.

Officers canvassed the area for witnesses and surveillance video. The matter remains under investigation.

Police say the crime is not random.

Ousman Camarah works at K's Grocery and Deli on West Broadway and spoke to 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS about the crime.

"A lot of the incidents that happen around here are isolated," Camarah said. "People that know each other. A lot of good people around here and the area is getting better."
