The Metropolitan Council Transportation Committee has approved to spend more than $1 million to buy bus barriers.
According to Metro Transit officials, up to 450 barriers could be purchased.
The barriers will help protect bus drivers from assaults.
More from KSTP:
Ryan Timlin, the transit union president, said it doesn't solve safety issues but calls it "a good start."
The full Metropolitan Council will vote on the issue Wednesday.
