The Hennepin County Medical Examiner has ruled the death of a 99-year-old man following a robbery at a private residence in Crystal early last month as a homicide.

A release from the medical examiner's office said John Mathias Gosche of Crystal died on Dec. 6 as a result of sepsis complicating blunt force injuries on his left arm. A release from Crystal police said those injuries were sustained when the suspects in a robbery days earlier at his residence on the 4100 block of Colorado Avenue North forced him around the house in an attempt to find money.

The suspects - identified as two males - left the residence with an undisclosed amount of cash. The release said there was no display or indication of a weapon during the encounter.
