The death of a 69-year-old Bloomington woman earlier this month has been officially ruled a homicide, according to a Hennepin County Medical Examiner report.
Corrine Louise Gibbs was found dead in her residence on the 8100 block of 12th Avenue South on May 6. Bloomington police reported the death as being suspicious and launched an investigation, taking another woman into custody.
The woman taken into custody was identified as 46-year-old Donna Mae Bastyr, Gibbs's roommate at the sober living complex. Last week, Bastyr was charged with second-degree murder in connection with the case.
A criminal complaint stated Bastyr told investigators she shared an apartment with Gibbs but that she hadn't been home the day Gibbs was found dead. The complaint also stated Bastyr provided "several different explanations for where she was during the day."
The medical examiner reported Gibbs "died due to complex homicidal violence."
