The Columbia Heights man charged in a fatal shooting at a Minnetonka park-and-ride last March has been found guilty on first- and second-degree murder charges.
The verdicts were handed down Tuesday.
Marcus Hallmark was accused of fatally shooting Thomas John Russ, 32 of Minneapolis, as he changed a flat tire. Sentencing is scheduled for next Monday.
According to the criminal complaint, Russ was the boyfriend of Hallmark's sister. Hallmark, Russ and two women had been hanging out at a home in Columbia Heights. One of the women lent her car to Hallmark. But at some point, he abandoned it at the park-and-ride ramp on Wayzata Boulevard in Minnetonka because it had a flat tire.
Hallmark, Russ and the two women drove to the ramp so Russ could change the flat tire. Both women reported hearing a loud bang. They looked over and said they saw Russ on the ground before Hallmark fired another shot and fled, the criminal complaint reports.
More than 12 law enforcement agencies in the west metro were involved in a manhunt before police discovered Hallmark in the woods near Crane Lake. He was apprehended without incident.
