One victim told police she saw a red sedan drive away after her purse was stolen.

Police said all victims so far have been women walking to their vehicles, and all have happened in the area near Kohl's at Maplewood Mall.

Police encourage people to not carry items of importance in purses, carry only the amount of cash and credit/debit cards that are needed and to call police immediately if someone attempts to steal their purse.

The department said they've stepped up patrols in the area.
