A 76-year-old man survived a home explosion that occurred in Paynesville Thursday morning.

When the officers arrived at the scene, they found a home that had collapsed and a small, visible fire.

The resident of the house, who was inside at the time, was able to crawl out from the debris. Police said the man -- identified as Dennis Pederson -- suffered minor injuries that did not need to be treated.

"They were probably as surprised as most people that I could actually walk out of there," Pederson said.

Police said firefighters were successfully able to extinguish the fire. The explosion also caused minor damage to a neighboring home, according to police.

The cause of the explosion is under investigation.
