Man Pleads Not Guilty in Connection to Crash That Killed Woman in Rice County

A man facing two counts of criminal vehicular homicide and one count of driving while impaired in connection to the death of a Des Moines woman in Rice County this past August has pleaded not guilty to each charge.

Brandon Patrick Dellwo, 29, entered his pleas Tuesday in Rice County court.

The charges stem from an early-morning crash on Highway 19 near Northfield on Aug. 6.

Dellwo is accused of operating his vehicle with negligence and while under the influence of alcohol in the crash that led to the death of 29-year-old Kacy Elizabeth Merseal.

According to the criminal complaint, after being transported to the Rice County Jail, Dellwo provided a sample that showed a blood alcohol content of .266.
