Man killed in construction accident in Meeker County identified

The man killed in a construction site accident in Harvey Township last week has been identified.

According to the Meeker County Sheriff’s Office, deputies and medical personnel were called to a construction site in the 31700 block of State Highway 22 on a report of an industrial accident at 11:46 a.m. Friday. One victim was pronounced dead at the scene while a second person was airlifted with critical injuries to St. Cloud Hospital. The sheriff’s office said a stabilizing platform for a concrete boom truck gave way, causing the boom to fall to the ground, hitting the two victims.

Monday, the sheriff’s office identified the person killed as 34-year-old Sergio Esquivel Torres.

The person injured in the accident was identified as 20-year-old Juan Bocardo Ibanez, of Litchfield. He’s since been released from the hospital, according to the sheriff’s office.
