The Washington County Sheriff's Department said a standoff in Forest Lake Monday afternoon ended when a male was found dead in the entryway of his home after suffering what a release said was an apparent "medical event."

Capt. Gregory Weiss said there were no obvious signs of trauma and the Ramsey County Medical Examiner will have to determine the cause of death.

The release from the department said Forest Lake police were called to the address on Hilo Avenue North around 11:29 a.m. Monday on the report of a physical domestic. On arrival, the release said officers were confronted by the male, who reportedly pointed a long gun at them.

A perimeter was set up and the Washington County SWAT team was notified and responded. The release said several attempts were made to negotiate with the man. Eventually, the SWAT team entered the home through the front door and located the man.

The release said lifesaving efforts were attempted, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene. The Ramsey County Medical Examiner will take control of the body.

No officers were injured in the incident, the release said.
