An Eagan man was killed Tuesday after being trapped in a grain bin in rural Sibley County.

The Sibley County Sheriff's Office said deputies were called just after 3 p.m. on the report of a man trapped inside of a grain bin.

The incident occurred in Faxon Township five miles west of Belle Plaine.

Investigators learned that a man had been unloading soybeans from the grain bin when he became engulfed in soybeans.

The sheriff's office said first responders cut open the side of the grain bin to release the grain and save the man.

According to the sheriff's office, the man was located an hour after responders arrived. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

He was later identified as 74-year-old Rodger Slater.

The sheriff's office said the accident happened while he was working at his farm.
