A 41-year-old man was arrested and charged after authorities say he discharged a handgun while police were responding to a domestic disturbance.

A release from the county's sheriff's office said authorities were called to a home in Hazelton Township on the report of a domestic disturbance.

While officers were speaking with a man believed to be involved, gunshots were fired in close proximity, according to the sheriff's office.

A deputy was able to locate the suspected shooter, identified as Trenton John Carrow. The sheriff's office said the deputy held Carrow at gunpoint and ordered him to put the gun down. After repeated orders, Carrow dropped the gun and was arrested without further incident.

According to the sheriff's office, Carrow was charged with second-degree assault, threats of violence and reckless discharge of a firearm. He was also charged with possession of marijuana, a misdemeanor.
