Man arrested in connection to fatal shooting in St. Paul

Darrion Isiah Gresham Coats, 18, has been arrested in connection to the shooting death of 42-year-old Larnell Brown. 

The shooting occurred on Tuesday afternoon in the area of University Avenue and Arundel Street in St. Paul. 

Authorities identify victim in fatal St. Paul shooting

Officers were patrolling the area of University Avenue and Arundel Street when they heard gunfire. The officers quickly reported the incident and began searching the area. They found the victim, identified as 42-year-old Larnell Brown, who had suffered a gunshot wound to his chest, lying in the middle of Arundel Street by a corner grocery store.

Officers rendered aid to Brown, who was then transported to Regions Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The shooting marks the third homicide of 2020 in St. Paul.

Coats is being held on suspicion of murder. He was arrested during a traffic stop in Red Wing.
